This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. I just wanted to suggest the scenes were parallel.  I'm certainly not
implying the books are parallel, and the subject line was just a
throwaway, there's certainly no overt connection between
Ishmael/Severian.  Queequeg's poncho (`doormat') is referred to in
some detail by Ishmael, which puts him, or his associations, entirely
in the right part of the world for me, anywhere in Ecuador would do as
far as I'm concerned.  I'd have thought that was enough for one little
cigar.  I'm not asking for a Havana, and I'll go and smoke it outside
if you like.
