The Two Katharines

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

In SHADOW XI, Severian details how he has helped haul out and stow away
the props each year, and is familiar with their true nature: the snakes
and flowers on the wheel are paper, the blade of execution is wood and
tinsel. But he does not know who she is or where she comes from, so
she's not just another prop.

She could be a salvaged animatronic or full robot in partial disrepair
(she seems to have minimal mobilty and vocabulary). But she also seems
to resemble Severian's mother.

Ew... could it be some kind of "House of Wax" scenario?
