This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I've thought about that some more. Valeria's family doesn't seem to be 
of especially poor means as they have servants and at least three towers 
to themselves, despite having dwindled to a single member in Valeria's 
generation.

As for the commonality of metals, there are any number of iron fixtures 
and other objects left to rust instead of being kept painted or oiled, 
and gold chrisos are not particularly rare in Severian's travels (unless 
I'm mistaken and chrisos aren't gold). No one's looted the funeral 
brasses from Severian's crypt. So supplying a dress with zippers to the 
only marriageable girl in even a poor but landed noble family isn't a 
big deal, though the zippers may have been salvaged from earlier 
garments, and it would make sense for them to be exposed as an 
ostentatious display. The same goes for any other metal trimmings, of 
course.
