This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. As is mentioned by others the Orthodox liturgy explicitly uses a knife. It is ritually inserted prior to a formal cutting motion being made. Since Wolfe has mentioned that the state is based on a Byzantine pattern this could indicate a eucharistic ceremony. That being said I haven't read the books about the whorl so I can't comment further.
