This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for.     Correct, but what I related from the OED about the root of C. Sappan is
also correct, just not relevant, apparently. What I meant to suggest is the
possibility that the location of the jungle, ambiguous in the text, might be
in Southeast Asia, where the French certainly had possessions. Robert was
schooled in Paris, after all.
