Typee, incidentally

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I think it is the Hierogrammates rather than the Hierodules who have
this rather high-handed attitude. The two actual Hierodules we see
most of, Barbatus and Famulimus, although they are in alliance with
the Hierogrammates, seem to be aware of their limitations. It is
Famulimus who says something along of the lines of [you see life as a
struggle, but] 'have you not thought it might be something more?',
which prompts Severian to seek reconciliation with Juturna.
