This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

SF has also been tried on as "speculative fiction." But all it is is an 
alternative---or the original---to "sci-fi," which is a marketing 
creation more or less synonymous with "bad." As Dan'l says.

However, I'm uncertain as to how to use the term without offending, 
since it has a real meaning. Good sf and bad sf share the same 
technologies and ideas, after all. Thus, I should have used quotes when 
referring to commercial sf.
