Wolfe covers

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

The cover of Home Fires is pretty boring, but at least its better than 
the 4th grade

Wolfe recently said something about the covers on The Book of the New Sun.
He said he has always been happy with the original cover of Shadow of 
the Torturer. No one expected the sales to be a big deal so they let him 
and the editor do what they wanted. But with each volume the 
expectations for the sales of the next volume increased. Consequently, 
with each release the Art Director became more involved and exercised 
more control, so that with each release, the quality of the artwork 
deteriorated. I don't know who the Art Director was a Tor at the time. 
He shouldn't put Gene Wolfe as a reference on his C.V.
