This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I can think of a lot of reasons, but the simplest is that he was at the
point of dying and not in the best situation to plan and carry out a tricky
double-bluff.

Or, in fact, he might have read the colonists - and specifically Remora -
correctly. Remora wanted to carry on to Green. However there was a monitor
in the sickbay and the ship over-ruled him. (I understand Wolfe himself
pointed this out after nobody figured it out.)

> Also, what did he really die of?

Maytera Marble said he was shot. I see no particular reason to doubt her.
