Alice Turner · 12 Jun 1999, 13:02 · from urth-v0027.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Yes, I'd agree with that. And Jonas, or what Sev believes to be Jonas
(Miles), is the closest thing Sev ever has to a male friend. He has shown
himself to be capable of basic protective human instincts, toward Dorcas,
toward Little Sev, but Jonas is his equal and friend, and thus we must see
Jonas in a human light because we see him through Sev. Furthermore, take it
to the Whorl. The "soldiers" there have personalities, and what about
Maytera Rose? A couple of years ago, when we were all gleefully taking Viron
names, our splendid Sgt. Rock announced himself. I offered a mild
biologically-prejudiced objection, suggesting that he might want to be
"Roc," as in the mythical bird. And he put me down forcefully, and quite
correctly, considering Wolfe's "complex theology," as above.
