This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

It's several types of prime, and perhaps more to the point, it is a number that is not a traditional Magic Number: 3, 7, 9, 12, etc. It is a number that makes a great very cool fragment of knowledge that may be part of a lost whole: it is dramatic and mysterious. Given the multifarious mythologies Wolfe is mixing up in TBOTNS, there are many numbers he would want to avoid using. 17 may simply be the anti-magic-number. It's not susceptible to the usual approaches to eschatological numerology. However, this can't explain why he used it three times---why not the Group of Nineteen? --- avast!
