Station Sign

Michael Andre-Driussi · 22 Jun 1999, 10:15 · from urth-v0027.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Re: that symbol in the presence chamber that makes Jonas say he's on Urth.
I didn't mention this before, but yes, it =3Dhas=3D always reminded me of t=
he
special individualized symbols at every jaunt platform in Bester's THE
STARS OUR DESTINATION--this is a case where everybody (well, nearly
everybody) can teleport via psionic power, but to keep things orderly they
usually "jaunt" from platform to platform, and to aid the process and avoid
misjump, each platform has its own glyph-sign-thingie, to serve as a
mneumonic.

Which is interesting because the presence chamber =3Dis=3D something of a j=
aunt
platform!
