This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

>Gerry Quinn: ?Is it known that all the gods are Mainframe?? Sciathan awaited an

>Blood stooped to examine the triptych. "Where's Pas?" Silk pointed.
>"That whirlwind? I thought he was an old man with two heads." "Any representation of a god is
>ultimately a lie," Silk explained. "It may be a convenient lie, and it may even be a reverent
>one; but it's ultimately false. Great Pas might choose to appear as your old man, or as the
>spiralling storm which is his eldest representation. Neither image would be more nearly true

Great quotes.

>Clearly this Jesus was at least an "aspect" or "host" of the Outsider

>Andrew Mason: He would have to be a form of the Outsider, and it's possible that he
>was the first. Also, we aren't told about everything Silk sees, so he may have seen lots

>Severian are our clearest examples - and there are thousands of them.

Recalls to mind the Hindu "10,000 names of God". I think Gerry's quote above nicely suggests
that Tartaros is a Mainframe aspect of The Outsider. He does seem to have some special qualities
which belie his supposed disability. And Tartaros is Pas' son. Father-son-father, etc.

>Gerry Quinn: That?s why harping on a reference to Dionysus as a form of the Outsider, for example,
>as if it were the key to some great secret cosmology (even though Dionysus is one of many gods so
>described) is getting Wolfe?s world completely ass-backward, just as it is getting it ass-backward
>to read Book of the New Sun as some hermetic gnostic scroll.

Oh okay! Thanks for clearing that up Gerry. Glad we finally have an ultimate authority here to
clarify things. It's really nice to have an omnicient electronic god here in our little forum. Would
it be okay if I called you Gerry-Pas from now on? And, if I may be so presumptuous, may I ask if you
are a blond or brunette (or both)?
