This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. You are absolutely correct, of course -- my apologies!  Apart from your
observation that no one relies on magnetic north for directions, a reversed
north and south would be inconsistent with Severian's northward progress
toward the equator, the existence of Ascia, an entire continent, above the
equator to the north, and the polar ice to the south.  I did not mean to add
to the already extensive geographic confusion about Sev's travels.
