Like a good Neighbor

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Not to play the devil's advocate, but 'I closed them again, and the next
time I opened them he had gone.' followed by a paragrapsh break, followed by
'I think it was not long afterward that I came to myself.' can not
unreasonably be interpreted as his dying, or getting to the brink of, under
Babbie's gaze, Babbie leaving convinced he was dead, and his coming back to
life (or his body being reanimated by a Neighbour spirit, but I don't like
hat) slowly a bit later. Long loss of conscience which seems like a short
while when waking is quite normal.
