This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

It is in the Southern Hemisphere, and there's no doubt about it. In addition to the points made by Mitchell Bailey and the observations of Mark Millman, it is clearly stated in chapter XXV of CITADEL, while the old autarch and Sev are in the flier, just before the crash. Sev tells the autarch what little he knows of the Ascians, that "...they live to the north in the hot countries, and that they're..." The autarch corrects him: "Half what you said of them was incorrect. They do not come from the hot countries of the north [i.e., near the equator], but from the continent that lies across the equator." Sorry, alga, but there it is.
