This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

No one has suggested that Wolfe is oblivious, though perhaps you could 
read it from Gerry's post. But just because the painting seems to mix a 
parody of Pas with a truer depiction of Typhon does not tell us its 
provenance with any certainty. "Connections" are not always 
hard-wired---I have suggested irony as an explanation, because Wolfe 
uses irony and is always interested in our interpretations of the divine.

If a pornographer paints a truer picture of God than an official 
iconographer, so be it.

You certainly don;t need to argue with Gerry through me. All I said was 
that Gerry had a point. Pas's two penises clearly derive from some 
misunderstanding of Typhon based on an understanding of Pas. Typhon was 
a parody of Pas who preceded Pas, because Pas was a *version* of Typhon.
