The Wizard

Marc Aramini · 09 Mar 2012, 16:09 · from 2012-March.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

You might even argue that it would be *worse* if the Church were visibly presiding over Urth in Severian?s time!

I really don't want to get embroiled in this debate, but I always felt like the refusal to allow men into the witches guild and the feast of St. Catherine followed by a ritual elevation in the Matachin tower to the black garb is pretty much? a mirror of the raising of clergy, male and female, in Catholicism, priests and nuns.? I felt that New Sun's opening was overtly Catholic in its imagery: dark saints with halos in the pictures, everything turned all "religious" in implication, the feast being one of saints, etc.? It seems way Catholic or Greek Orthodox or something in general, and I think it's ... visibly presiding over everything, honestly (even the religion of Silk in Long Sun and its chastity, etc).? But maybe that's just me.
