Short story 2: The Case of the Vanishing ghost

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. I haven?t read the story in question, but I will note that two classic mystery series had detectives named, respectively, Philo Vance and Ellery Queen.

I would guess that the reference is to these names, plus, as you say, the adage that ?philosophy is the queen of science?.

I think I am going to do The Grave Secret next - it is the first one that has a really Wolfean feel, but I can't find it online.? So if anyone has Young Wolfe it is included there.? It was also published in 1951, and it is better than these first two stories in that it is truly and clearly Wolfean, though he still "reveals" the punch line at the end.??Perhaps I will post that tonight, keeping the same basic format.?
