This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. But we barely see Paul at all, and the story is entirely told from the father's point of view, I think that's plenty of an indication as to whom Wolfe identified with more. Also, Paul doesn't come across as disoriented to me. Ill-prepared, possibly, but he's still significantly more prepared than his parents.
