Loony Presents and Futures

JMCAzurin · 22 Nov 1999, 11:01 · from urth-v0028.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Given that Urth's core has solidified by Sev's time, the same would have=20
happened to Verthandi and Skuld. They wouldn't have geothermal=20
(urr...venothermal? marothermal?) plants. Barring their possession of=20
technogical wizardry that's not present on Urth, their primary energy=20
source would likewise be the darkened sun. They'd probably be pretty dismal=20
places to live as well.

Their mineral-richness or -poorness is arguable though. They may not have=20
been as thoroughly mined.

Another loony idea: what if Wolfe had tipped his hat to Arthur C Clarke=20
and had the Hieros ignite Jupiter instead? Certainly seems easier than=20
transporting a white fountain.

- Are you crying?
- No, I'm bleeding.
