This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I think it's more about the contrariness of being the lowest of the low,
that they purposefully put themselves at the bottom of the heap because
they have no scruples about what they will do for the Autarch, which
also makes them the most trusted and valued. This may be what is
qualitatively different from the other guilds' mystery.

Sev has also had a religious awakening about this time, and realizes
that the party line that he presents to Dorcas makes perfect sense as a
justification for a secular autocrat to ordain a guild of torturers, but
such a thing is abhorrent to the Increate and anyone who truly follows Him.

I don't know that he literally abolishes the guild (he still speaks of
the masters by title), or perhaps removes the license to perform torture
from their charter, reducing them to jailers and executioners.
