Urth Digest, Vol 108, Issue 19

Brian Doherty · 19 Aug 2013, 19:41 · from 2013-August.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I did not realize there had been any significant critical backlash against
NEW SUN---always thought it was considered a classic right out of the gate
by "considered opinion" and retained that status. (At this point I say I
prefer SHORT SUN of the Suns, but that is based on memory more than
judgement. And I was one of those who managed to read and love NEW SUN
while remaining completely ignorant of key facts about what I'd read,
having them revealed only via commentary later. Didn't effect my love or
admiration.)
