This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. I almost feel as if Wolfe was very interested in metafiction in the early to late 80s and then gradually lost interest in it, reverting back to more traditional narrative in the 90s (without completely abandoning the old indeterminate perceptual questions like "was I a butterfly dreaming I was a man, or a man dreaming I was a butterfly?" which seem to form such a strong thematic element of collections like Strange Travellers (Bluesberry Jam and Ain't You Most Done?, for example)
