Five Severians - Severian-as-Clone

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I don't see why its necessary for the mausoleum to be out of time. If the
"coffins" are suspended animation chambers for clones, then those that walk
the Corridors of Time could activate a clone whenever they choose. It is
important how many "coffins" are open, just because in Severian's current
liner time, only another clone is active. This means the other's of himself
he meets are from other coffins, but only opened after he saw them as a
child.

The reason the mausoleum isn't molested is simple: the Autarch is in on the
Severian scheme. Autarch set up a secret guard on the mausoleum to keep
everyone but child Severian, or quantum Severian, out. He, like everyone
else, was manipulating Severian from childhood, he was just as in on
Severian eating Thecla as Votalus was. Severian visited the Autarch's
brothel after Thecla was taken, but before she committed suicide. So he
lied later in Citadel about not knowing she was captive. This all shows the
Autarch was always aware of what was transpiring in the necropolis, and
guarded it from interlopers.
