This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. Nod being late suggests to me that the "correct" time for him to meet 
Cain would be even earlier; he was instructed wrt Cain, somehow became 
petrified, and reanimated during the next cycle before the subsequent 
Cain was born.
