Strange Travellers as a whole

Dennis G. Berdanis · 08 Feb 2000, 04:30 · from urth-v0028.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

So if all the stories tie together into one big message Wolfe is sending

Would that message be that life is so hard and unpleasant that delusion is
preferable to it?

If that's true, what's interesting to me about Wolfe's worlds of delusion is
that none of them are paradises. The traffic jam. The battle of good vs.
evil being a suicide mission in space. The frozen world of Emery.

Yet still they seem to be more appealing to the main characters than the
real worlds they exist in full of boring jobs, mundane family duties
(fatherhood), divorce etc.
