This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes.  I met Vollmann last Thursday on his book tour, and specifically asked him
about Wolfe after I saw the quote. He said he thought Wolfe to be quite
remarkable, mentioning Book of the New Sun and The Fifth Head of Cerberus
to be outstanding works.
