This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Perhaps the character in a book reading and the Catholic parable
reading aren't incompatible:  Chesterton, after all, quite a few
times talks about Christianity as being highly in tune with the
spirit of Boys' Adventure Stories (and, more generally, the idea
of the novel).  This is an idea Wolfe is certainly familliar with
(and his essays in CASTLE OF DAYS have some of the same spirit).
You could also tie in Muriel Spark's take on this in THE COMFORTERS,
which certainly links being a Creature of God and being a Character
in a Book.
