Dredging up the past

Jim Russell · 12 Jun 2000, 10:31 · from urth-v0029.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Ok, Im not sure if this has been dealt with or not, but=20
referring back to the Jonas, Hethor, Tzadkiel stuff...

At several points in UotNS characters note that there is=20
only one ship travelling between the stars, but because it=20
ignores standard temporaral physics it seems like many. So=20
the ship has a linear, internal history which does not obey=20
the laws of normal time (just like Sev). Bearing in mind=20
the high possibility that Jonas had served on this ship (at=20
some point in history), can we assume that the crashlanding=20
he talks about is the end of Tzadkiel's ship?

When he then steps into Father Inire's mirrors, claiming=20
that he will return when he is "Sane and whole" isn't he =20
talking about returning to his own past aboard the ship=20
(The asumption being that he will emerge between the sails=20
which pick up the apports that plague the ship).

Obviously this poses some (whopping) problems with regards=20
to the Jonas/Miles situation, but I'd appreciate hearing=20
anyone else's thoughts on this.

Feel free to shout me down at will.
