What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. I think we're in the wrong worldview here.  The song is magical, so
its effects break down immediately from the point of view of a pre-Contact
narrator, no matter how acausal that appears to science fiction critics ;)

I would have thought that any shielding effects on foreigners would be psyc=
hic
in nature...their own perception would be that they just hadn't got around =
to
colonizing St Anne yet.
