The Walking Sticks

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I asked Pete Crowther if he could provide some
information on Wolfe's recent story "The Walking
Sticks", to be found in the (rather expensive)
anthology TAPS AND SIGHS. His response:

"I don't know that there's much info I can provide
about 'The Walking Sticks' save that it's around 6,000
words (as I recall) and is a somewhat dark
first-person murder mystery with undertones of Poe and
Bloch, with maybe an undertone or two reminiscent of
King's short work. I hope that sounds sufficiently
intriguing to persuade people to rush out and buy the
book."

Anyone tempted?
