Unmanned autharch

Alice Turner · 25 Jan 1998, 19:49 · from urth-v0006.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

That's why I wince when I hear people use the
>word "punishment." The Autarch's castration wasn't a punishment for his
>failure to bring the New Sun back to Urth, it was merely a device to insure
>Severian, who *could* bring the NS, would get his day.

Besides, it wasn't the one Autarch, it was the whole string of them.
