Digest urth.v030.n178

PMorris33 · 31 Aug 2001, 19:13 · from urth-v0030.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I think it was in Dozois Year's Best, probably within the last 10 years. I
visited a friend a few months ago who had quite a few of the Dozois year's
best anthologies

The young woman receives a psychological control (total enslavement device)
from one of the refugees she is interrogating. Other aid officials try to
take it from her.

For some reason, I thought it was a Wolfe piece. (It was extremely
well-written)
