Digest from urth@urth.net

John Bishop · 30 Jan 2002, 22:20 · from urth-v0202.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I have a problem with the digest format.

It comes to me as a series of attached files,
one per message, each of which I have to expand
if I wish to read it, schematically:

     [Part 1.1]
     [Part 1.2]
         :
     [Part 1.N]

The old digest used to come as one long file,
with messages in plain text, one after another,
schematically:

 msg one body, blah blah...
msg two body, so and so, such and such...
   :
msg N body, details and arguments...

I _much_ prefer the old system. Can the new
one be changed?
