This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Jack Chalker's _Web World_ seemed to present an interesting treatment of=20
this issue, from what I remember  (I read those books back in the early=20
eighties, and would not recommend the author).  The premise is that some=20
uber-aliens experimented with various life forms, seeding them in=20
hexagonal bounded territories on a single planet.  He distinguishes=20
carbon from non-carbon based life forms, and spends some time discussing=20
how various species were situated to make it hard for any one to conquer=20
neighboring species.

I don't recall much science, however.
