This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

As far as Wolfe having read Baum's Oz books as well as Ruth Plumley Thompso=

I am certain that he did. Quite a while ago, I posted a very long and rough=
ly
written series of messages analyzing Wolfe's novella "The Eyeflash Miracles"
and I was able to find some pretty specific references to Baum's Oz books. =

course, I suppose this isn't definitive: Thompson and the other subsequent =
Oz
authors reused charaters and settings from Baum as well as inventing their =
own.
I only re-read Baum's original 14 Oz books during my "Eyeflash" analysis. N=

that I know he preferred the Thompson books, I'll have to try to find time =

re-read those, as well.
