Smart Robots

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hartshorn said it pretty darn well:

While I think it may be a stretch to simply say "they can," I
think we can safely say "it appears that they can." I would
suggest that in the Lupiverse (as quite possibly in the=20
universe which we are please to call "real"), if humans make=20
something capable of ensoulment, God will provide the soul --
which does not necessarily mean that it is a "good" thing to=20
make such an object, other than by the means which have been
provided us (i.e., reproduction); but a robot or a clone would
not, I think, be punished for the sins of its makers.

Why? Because one thing is true does not mean that another thing
is not; certainly, these two things don't contradict. Or, if you
think they do, please show how. Make sure that it accounts for
Olivine.
