This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hey Jerry - if you like Nabokov's Pale Fire, check out Boyd's "Pale Fire - =
The=20
Magic of Artistic Discovery" - he says that both Shade and Kinbote are equa=
lly=20
inspired by the same source: the Vanessa butterfly that is actually Shade's=20
daughter, who sympathizes with Kinbote because of their mutual loneliness a=
nd=20
exclusion from society - it is cool because I like the idea of the two=20
obviously incompatible narratives being used by a supernatural being in ord=
er=20
to produce a homage to her life - in other words, she directly inspires the=20
fantasies of Kinbote, which then actually did influence Shade in the=20
composition of the poem which was really about his daughter. Pretty weird.=
  I=20
like it because it reminds me of my Horn in Babbie idea.=20
In any case, whether you buy the primary thesis or not, the book really,=20
really has a lot of good explanatory information that really makes sense of=20
the book. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I got a bad concussion yester=
day=20
- everything is bright and blurry (I admit, I've been skimming the list for=20
the past two days, but I will go back and read everything thoroughly when I=20
feel smart again.)
