This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. For what it's worth...

I've read somewhere that the primary sexual characteristic of the=20
tom housecat is, uh, sort of barbed and tends to get stuck coming=20
out. The evolutionary excuse for this is that it makes the queen=20
unwilling to mate again for a while, so the first male's sperm=20
have more time to find & fertilize the ova before any competitors=20
come along.

I can't verify that this is true, but if Wolfe read the same thing
I did [and he seems to read just about everything 8*)], then this
could explain the quote in question ... after all, she's a cat ...
