Base 9 on the Whorl?

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I think this has been pretty well refuted, but oh, how I wish it were
true.  I really believed it for a minute.  It seemed like such a Wolfean
idea, him being an engineer and all, and the idea of it being subtly woven
into all the books as an easter egg is fabulous, and it seems like the
sort of thing Pas would do.

Don't tell Wolfe.  He'll probably kick himself for not thinking of it.
