This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Not quite.  The key line is "the future of the whole establishment turned,
as upon less than a hair, on his judgment." (45, hc)  It is not Peacock, but
the proprietor of the boarding house who will serve roast pork; the "new
member of the faculty" is not just visiting, but considering taking a room
at the house, and the purpose of the pork is not merely to impress him, but
to mislead him into thinking pork is regularly on the menu.
