This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hello everyone.

I'm not a complete stranger here, but I haven't been a frequent=20
participant, either.  Still, I was hoping that somebody could help me=20
out.  I've just completed my second reading of the Short Sun books and=20
have at least one question that I haven't been able to figure out.=20
 Allow me to set the stage:

At the very end of Chapter 12 in RttW, Horn finally arrived at Ermine's=20
after several interesting adventures (visiting the Sun Street manteion,=20
meeting and having a drink with his father, being waylaid by Olivine at=20
the Calde's palace and taken into the palace through a secret gate,=20
visiting the room he and Nettle stayed in for a short time (I think),=20
bathing and getting clean clothes, shriving and then receiving an eye=20
from Olivine).  Patera Gulo had been at Ermine's ahead of him, looking=20
for Silk, but all that Horn wanted to do was to lie down.  After=20
sleeping for a bit, and making sure that Hound and Pig were asleep, he=20
slipped out of the room and headed downstairs to the garden fountain=20
"where Thelx holds up a mirror."  He then went back to the Calde's=20
palace to get his walking stick before going back to the room.  Upon=20
entering the room, we have the following exchange:

  As he put the key back into the lock, Pig asked sleepily, "Recollect=20
ther craws, bucky?"
  It took a moment.  "Why, yes. Yes, I do, Pig."
  "Still say ther same?"

And that's the end of the chapter.  I've puzzled and puzzled over this=20
passage, but I can't figure out what it means.  Can any of you shed any=20
light on this for me?
