Time must have a stop

Chris · 16 Dec 2002, 22:00 · from urth-v0212.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Thanks Jerry, this is, essentially, not far from what I proposed in my post=20
as a reasonable alternate explanation, and which Don didn't address in his=20
reply. Basically, the Outsider is directly responsible, possibly by means o=
f=20
Silk having an embolism. The embolism is much easier to believe than the FT=
L=20
explanation, if we're looking only for the most believable/possible answer.

I am not a crusader against the Blushas theory, though I do not believe it.=20
I just think there are more fertile grounds to pursue the question than thi=
s=20
particular line. In the absolute best case, if one proves beyond reasonable=20
doubt that FTL did occur, one merely proves that the Blushas theory is *not=20
impossible* - it does nothing to establish its truth. And there are much=20
easier ways to show that Blushas is not impossible, without resorting to=20
FTL. You could say that the ship went in a circle, or it might never have=20
even left the solar system in the first place. There are arguments against=20
both of these, too, I grant, but they both require less justification.

Chris
