This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

There's been a question that has, for some time, been circulating=20
among mathematicians (and now I, like Jerry, have revealed my=20
profession).  Suppose you could learn the proof of the Riemann=20
hypothesis (it used to be Fermat's Last Theorem), but had to=20
swear never to reveal it to anybody else the rest of  your life. =20
Would you agree?   I suspect Marc now understands this=20
dilemma quite well.

And guys, we're being too hard on Marc.  I don't think he meant=20
to tantalize us and drive us crazy with frustration.  I think that=20
after receiving the note, he was so excited he had to say=20
something, and he didn't think very carefully about how it would
go over on this list.  And Marc -- I hope you can get permission
from Wolfe to tell us about it eventually (although it'll be really
interesting to see how close we can come if he asks you to=20
keep it quiet for some time first).
