Virus alert!

Roy C. Lackey · 24 Dec 2002, 03:08 · from urth-v0212.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

All,

I received an e-mail this afternoon at 3:03 central time, subject line
"Happy Christmas" from list-member Stone Ox. It crashed Outlook Express when
I highlighted it (fortunately!), so I couldn't tell if it was sent to me as
an individual or to all list members, so beware. It is infected with the
Klez virus. Don't open the attachments and check your hard drives for any
infections. I have never corresponded with Stone Ox, so I shouldn't have
been in his address book, which is how the virus is spread, I think. So, if
I got the e-mail, you probably all did. Take care.

-Roy
