This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Roy has a very fixed idea of the Typhon scene in mind - and I admit I am=20
guilty (all the time) of paraphrasing.  Even in quotes.  We should agree to=20
disagree about this scene - I can't read it without thinking that the=20
Conciliator and the New Sun are equated, no matter how many times I look at=20
it, and that Typhon of course recognizes that Severian is both the=20
Conciliator, and that he is the New Sun, who will kneel before him if Sever=
ian=20
does so.  I just can't read it any other way.  What's the point of having h=

tempt the "savior" figure here if he doesn't understand the importance of=20
deterring him?  Isn't there some kind of allegorical resonance here?  Doesn=
