Typhon's scene - (sorry - last time)

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

This is parlously close to=3D20 namecalling ... this is a pretty flame-free sort of a list and I, for one, would like for it to stay so. I might add: it would only be duplicitous if the paraphraser=3D20 _intended_ to deceive the reader into believing that the paraphrase was a quote. I don't get the impression Marc intended that at all. It's a pity we're limited to ASCII here ... in the old days of mimeo'd fanzines and such, we had a way cool bit of=3D20 invented-for-the-purpose punctuation called the "quasi-quote,"=3D20 formed by typing the double-inverted-comma character,=3D20 backspacing, and typing a hyphen in the same place: meaning,=3D20 "I'm quoting this from memory, so the exact wording may be=3D20 wrong." Almost as useful as the interabang (? typed over !) for rhetorical questions and the often-discussed but never quite created "irony mark." --Blattid --=20
