...belated response... (re: Aeneas)

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Doubtful, because he is plainly already Roman given the historical=20
context, and other cluse (his reaction to seeing the Roman standard);=20
the events of the Soldier books happen 400-900 years after Aeneas' time=20
(mythically speaking). I'm not sure when the eagle came into wide usage=20
so that may be an anachronism in the book. Or perhaps now I'm=20
misremembering :)

Even if you are losing it for real (finally!), you've still managed=20
to intrigue me on the point of how the Soldier books draw from and=20
invert the epic homecoming framework. Latro's "blindness" forces him to=20
become his own storyteller, and in a way the vengeful goddess is also=20
The Muse driving the story.

It probably wouldn't be very instructive but I wonder what the map=20
of Latro's journey looks like compared to the speculative waypoints of=20
Odysseus and Aeneas.
