Che's "Gender in TBOTLS" and "Questions"

Che Monro · 04 Mar 2003, 08:19 · from urth-v0303.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

*giggles and hides a smile behind her, um *ahem* his hand, Yes* You know=20
they don't call me The Flirt for nothing. ;)

Oh I must go and look this up. Was Horus the one who got torn up into=20
little bits or was that Pas? Or Osiris? The all seeing eye of Horus also=20
comes into Lois MacMaster Bujold's work as the symbol of ImpSec, the=20
security wing of the Barrayar Imperium. Coincidence? I think not!

It's quite plausible to assume that the Whorl is traversing near Barrayaran=20
space and they plant Oreb on board as a secret agent. Nobody will suspect=20
an innocent bird of being a spy who watches everything. This would make The=20
Outsider... Simon Illyan, the head of ImpSec. Does Bujold ever mention=20
spybirds? No, but someone else does. Was it Harry Harrison in The Stainless=20
Steal Rat?

But where is Miles in all of this, I hear you ask? I don't know, probably=20
lost down in all those tunnels that look alike along with everyone else.

Can anyone disprove this theory for me, please?

Anyhow, thanks for the information on Oreb, it's provided a whole new light=20
on the book for me. Um, that's a positive thing, I think. ;)
